DD Science

DD Science, an independent commercial laboratory establishment, is located at the Analytical Laboratory next to Cooke Metallurgical Process Plant, Randfontein, West Rand, Gauteng.  DD Science provides support and advisory service to customers in the areas of water and wastewater quality and general environmental and analytical chemistry.

DD Science is now a SANAS Accredited Laboratory and meets the requirements of ISO/IEC 17025

The origins of DD Science go back to 1986 when the Environmental Laboratory came into existence as part of the JCI mining group to provide a support service to Randfontein Estates and Western Area Gold Mines.

When Randfontein Estates was taken over by the Harmony Group in January 2000 the Laboratory was privatised.  A group of former employees decided to continue to provide a support service to the new mining group and initiated DD Science in November 2000, which now fulfils this function, but as an independent organisation which is exploring the commercial market.

Scope of operation

The chemical physical and microbiological analysis of all materials and in particular water and wastewater, groundwater, sewage effluents, mine and industrial effluents. Operations also include on-site sample collection and monitoring surveys by experienced and qualified staff members.  The laboratory carries out its testing activities in such a way as to meet the requirements of SABS ISO/IEC 17025 and to satisfy the needs of the clients.

Organisation and management policy

DD Science promises to provide the client with an excellent service by constant liaison with the client and continually strives to meet the needs of the customer whilst ensuring that the client’s confidentiality is protected at all times.

A policy of the management is empowerment of local previously disadvantaged individuals thereby uplifting the local community and reducing unemployment.

Management also prides itself with providing a safe and congenial environment for employees and encourages development by providing training internally and externally.
